We have really hard water here in Northern Indiana and bought water to drink and cook with all the time. After figuring how much we spent on bottled or refill water it was and easy decision. This Berkey BK4X2-BB Big Berkey Filtration System unit filters all the bad stuff out and gives us fresh great tasting water.

 

The water tastes great and it really makes a difference in the filtration of the water. I tested the quality with a standard water kit and the water from the sink came out higher in acidity in comparison to the water filtered from the Berkey BK4X2-BB which was came out more Alkaline.

I was a big scared to purchased this Berkey BK4X2-BB Big Berkey Filtration System, after reading all of the negative reviews that it had. I guess Berkey much has just had a bad batch of black filters. I have done the food coloring test, and have not had any issues with that. The water tastes noticeably very better, even from the tap, but it also makes coffee and tea taste better as well.

A tip from my friend who is a long time Berkey owner: Wash the filters as frequently as directed in the manual! This keeps the Berkey working really well. The ONLY thing I would change if I had it to do over, would be to gt a bigger unit... the Big Berkey does cover my needs, however sometimes I do need more then it holds, & while it does filter fairly fast, it's still a bit of a wait that I would rather not have.

I will definitely buy another Berkey, but I will spend a bit more & upgrade to a larger model for home use, & use the 'Big Berkey' for extended camping trips... I've got pump filters from both Pur, & Katadine, but not only is the Berkey so much easier to use, but unlike the Katadine, the Berkey gets rid of viruses, & can be used every day forever, unlike my Pur filter which uses iodine to kill viruses, & thus is not recommended for extended use.
